Sequence
K P V
Lys-Pro-Val. Free amine at the N-terminus, free acid at the C-terminus. Three residues, 342 daltons, and no modifications at all — which makes it the plainest entry in this reference and the easiest to characterise unambiguously.
Origin
KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, residues 11 to 13 of that thirteen-residue peptide. It is made by synthesis. Note that Melanotan II, elsewhere in this catalog, is a cyclic analogue drawn from the same parent hormone — two very different molecules with a common ancestor.
Solubility
Freely soluble in water. At three residues there is no folding to disturb and no hydrophobic core to coax into solution; it behaves much more like a simple amino-acid salt than like the longer peptides beside it.
Storage and handling
- Lyophilised powder: store at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture.
- Bring the vial to room temperature before opening, so condensation does not form on the powder.
- In solution: refrigerate, protect from light, and treat the working life as far shorter than that of the powder.
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot first if the solution will be drawn on more than once.
- Label every reconstituted vial with compound, lot, concentration and date.
How your lot is verified
An independent third-party laboratory tests the material first, then we test it again in-house when it arrives — purity by HPLC, identity by mass spectrometry — and only then does it ship. How we verify.
