Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. Free amine at the N-terminus, free acid at the C-terminus — no acetylation, no amidation, no non-standard residues. Note the three consecutive prolines at positions 3 to 5, which is what makes this a structurally rigid peptide rather than a flexible chain.
Origin
BPC-157 is a partial sequence of Body Protection Compound, a protein identified in human gastric juice. It does not occur on its own in nature; the fifteen-residue stretch was isolated as a sequence of interest and is made here entirely by solid-phase synthesis. Nothing in this vial was extracted from tissue.
Solubility
Readily soluble in water and in aqueous buffers at typical working concentrations. Also soluble in dilute acetic acid. The peptide carries both acidic residues (two aspartates, one glutamate) and a basic lysine, so it is amphoteric and its solubility behaviour changes with pH.
Storage and handling
- Lyophilised powder: store at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Stable at ambient temperature for the duration of shipping.
- Bring the vial to room temperature before opening. Opening a cold vial draws moist air onto the powder as it equalises.
- In solution: refrigerate, protect from light, and treat the working life as far shorter than that of the powder.
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Aliquot before freezing if the solution will be drawn on more than once.
- Label every reconstituted vial with compound, lot, concentration and date.
